Louis Annino painted this table sometime between 1855 and 1995, using what looks like watercolor or gouache on paper. Look at the careful strokes and soft palette – browns and creams – and imagine the artist's hand moving with a gentle, deliberate rhythm. I get the sense that Annino was really focused on capturing the form and structure of this table, its geometric simplicity. The triangle formed by the legs, meeting in a circle at the top, is very satisfying. I imagine the artist studying the play of light and shadow on the wood, trying to convey its texture and depth. Maybe he felt a connection to the everyday object, finding beauty in its functional design. It reminds me a little of Morandi's still lifes, how he painted the same bottles over and over, each time finding something new. Painting is a conversation across time, one artist inspiring another, and it’s lovely to think of artists like Annino, quietly exploring the world around them with a brush in hand.
