This is a photograph by Augusta Curiel of a train at a small station. It's a black and white image, and it's easy to imagine that when she made it, it was a way for her to be like, "Hey, look at this moment!" It's a way of grabbing something out of time. It's fascinating to imagine Curiel behind the camera. I love how she's managed to flatten everything into shapes. It is a way of creating a new perspective and a new visual language. I also like how she is using the camera to highlight certain shapes and forms in the world. Augusta Curiel's process reminds me of the ongoing conversation between artists, inspiring each other and working together towards creative expression. Her photography embraces ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations and meaning, rather than just fixed readings.
