Editor: This photograph, simply titled "Untitled (Berkeley)" by Bill Dane, shows a stark black and white image of a road and tree. There's a strong sense of isolation in the image. What social narratives do you see at play here? Curator: The starkness amplifies the divisions we see mirrored in society. Consider the deliberate lack of context—'Untitled'—and its location, Berkeley, often a site of protest. Does the empty road evoke a sense of abandonment or a challenge to prescribed routes? Editor: I hadn’t considered the title in that light. It’s powerful to think about the potential for social commentary. Curator: Dane perhaps is urging us to consider the paths we create, and who has access to them. Hopefully we can all reflect on our place in building a more inclusive landscape. Editor: I'll definitely look at Dane's work with a new perspective moving forward.
