Burhan Dogancay gives us "Switzerland - Geneva Wall" and right away, I'm thinking about layers. Like, imagine Dogancay walking around Geneva, spotting this wall, and thinking, "That's my canvas!" He probably didn't just copy what was there. I bet he added, subtracted, ripped, and maybe even pasted, making the wall’s story his own. The textures are wild, right? All those torn bits of posters, the wood grain peeking through—it's like a history book you can touch. And that face, emerging from the chaos of reds, whites, and blues. Is it a scream? A song? It makes me wonder what Dogancay was feeling. Was he angry at the state? Was he intrigued by the people? I think it’s a conversation with Kurt Schwitters or Mimmo Rotella. Dogancay isn't just showing us a wall. He's showing us that art can be anywhere, that anything can be art, and that artists are always chatting with each other, even across time.
