Editor: Lawrence Weiner's "Spheres of Influence" is a thought-provoking work on paper. It feels so minimal, almost like a diagram. What do you see in this piece? Curator: It's wonderfully elusive, isn't it? Weiner, bless his heart, always challenged us to complete the artwork in our minds. I see the bare bones of connection – those intersecting lines, the suggestion of form. What do these 'spheres' mean to you? Are they personal, political, cosmic? Editor: I guess it's up to us to decide? I like that freedom. Curator: Exactly! That's Weiner's gift. He gives us a starting point and then throws us into the deep end of interpretation. Makes you think about how much art is actually *in* the artist, and how much is *us*. Editor: That's a total perspective shift! Curator: Indeed. Food for thought.
