Filippo Ferrari created this image of Koningscollege, using printmaking to capture its architectural essence. The walls and towers evoke a sense of enclosure. Inscriptions at the bottom allude to Mars and Pallas, connecting war and wisdom. The image is reminiscent of classical fortifications. Consider the walls of ancient Troy or Rome, embodiments of protection and power. Here, the architectural elements are not merely structural. These are symbols deeply embedded in our collective memory. The walls also suggest boundaries and separation, a concept recurring throughout history in various forms, from the walled cities of the Middle Ages to modern borders. This notion of enclosure taps into a primal human desire for security. The recurring symbolism highlights our continued need to define space, establish boundaries, and protect what we value, reflecting a cycle of cultural and psychological evolution.
