Harrie Gerritz made this print called *Op de weg van de steenbok* – or, *On the Road of Capricorn* – and it’s all about simple shapes, printed in flat colors, and how they sit on the page. It reminds me that art-making is also about problem solving. Here, the surface feels almost like a game. There's a blue Capricorn goat, triangles, squares, a swirl, a graph with a red line showing an upward trajectory, all carefully placed. Each form has a clear boundary, a distinct identity. There's space and air, but the placement is very deliberate. Take a look at how the blue goat looks like it's standing on the triangles. Gerritz isn't trying to trick you into thinking that these shapes are real, but he's using them to create a visual language. It makes me think of artists like Joan Miró, who also used simple shapes and colors to create their own visual worlds. Ultimately, it invites us to create our own stories, and embrace the playfulness of making and seeing.
