This is Horia Damian's “Triedrul”, and I love how it plays with space, how a construction can make nothing look like something. The off-white paint makes it look a bit like a stage set, or maybe a doorway. Look at the surface: the brushstrokes disappear, making the whole thing feel solid, like it was always there, not built or constructed. That blank, black space inside the triangle? That's the magic! I am reminded of Robert Smithson and his interest in natural geometric forms. Like Smithson, Damian invites us to consider how we see shapes and forms in the world, to reflect on the relationship between art and nature. But here, Damian embraces simplicity, reducing everything to the essential lines of the triangle. He understands that ambiguity is a strength.
