Pavlo Makov made this print, Neighbourhood #14, sometime around 2019-2021. It's got these really intricate architectural forms, almost like a blueprint of a city that exists only in the imagination. I find myself wondering about the artist, you know? What's it like to conjure these structures, piece by piece? The way the lines connect these buildings... it's like he’s mapping out not just physical space, but also the relationships, the connections between people, or maybe even ideas. The texture is subtle, almost ghostly. Are these buildings ruins? Or the foundations of things to come? It reminds me of Piranesi's etchings, these labyrinthine spaces that seem to defy logic, and also of some of the more diagrammatic work of contemporary artists like Julie Mehretu. Ultimately, this print feels like an invitation to get lost, to wander through a world that's both familiar and utterly strange. It's a reminder that art can be a way to explore not just the world around us, but the hidden landscapes within.
