This photograph, titled *Zuidgevel van het stadhuis van Kampen*, was taken by an anonymous photographer for Monumentenzorg. Look at how the light and shadow dance across the brickwork, almost like a painter layering different washes of colour to create depth. The monochrome palette emphasizes the textures of the building's facade. You can almost feel the roughness of the bricks and the smoothness of the stone accents. There’s this wonderful, almost dizzying, spiralling pillar—a real tour-de-force of bricklaying. It reminds me of some of the obsessive detailing in the work of the Hairy Who artists, that impulse to fill every possible space with pattern. In its own way, this is a celebration of a very particular kind of making, not just of the building itself but also this photographic record of it. It’s a reminder that all art, in the end, is really just a conversation across time.
