Curatorial notes

Editor: This is Denman Waldo Ross's watercolor "Landscape." The bare branches in the foreground give the scene such a sense of stillness and dormancy. What resonates with you when you look at this work? Curator: It’s interesting how the skeletal tree both obscures and reveals the building behind it. Bare branches often symbolize death or the end of a cycle, but here, set against the building, might they also represent resilience and persistence? A memory of a past, still standing? Editor: That's a very interesting perspective, and I hadn't thought about the building as a symbol of persistence itself. Thank you. Curator: And thank you, it is fascinating how an image can hold dualities, loss and endurance intertwined.
