Tiberiy Szilvashi made this untitled work, and what strikes me is the process, the layering, the sheer physicality of the paint. It's like he's building these deep blue surfaces, one on top of the other, until they almost vibrate. Look closely, you can see the texture, the way the brushstrokes create a kind of relief. In some areas, the paint is thick and opaque, a solid mass of color. In others, it thins out, revealing hints of what lies beneath—flecks of red and green peeking through. It's a dance between concealing and revealing, a push and pull that keeps your eye moving. See how in the lower left panel the vertical streaks suggest a kind of slow dripping, a controlled fall. It reminds me a little of Agnes Martin, but with more guts, you know? Like she might have painted it if she'd let herself get a bit messy. Ultimately, it’s about trusting the process, embracing the unknown, and finding beauty in the unexpected.
