This Chilean peso piece was designed by Louis-Oscar Roty. We see a powerful eagle, wings spread wide, perched proudly. This motif is far from new, resonating deeply with a history stretching back millennia. Consider the Roman Empire, where the eagle, as the emblem of Jupiter, symbolized imperial power and military might. This idea of the eagle as an emblem of power has been passed down through history, evolving and adapting as it goes. In this coin, the artist taps into this reservoir of collective memory, consciously or unconsciously. It evokes a feeling of national pride and strength, connecting to primal emotions of belonging and identity. It is a symbol that has traversed epochs, resurfacing in diverse contexts, each time carrying echoes of past meanings, yet molded by contemporary aspirations. The image touches something deep within us.
