Adrianus Eversen sketched this "View of Two Animals Near a Building," capturing a fleeting moment with what appears to be graphite on paper. The sketch depicts a building, barely defined, its essence captured through sparse lines. But it is the implied presence of animals that intrigues me. From a bird's-eye view, the animals are presented from above, in this sketch, which evokes a sense of dominance and control. They seem to be a symbol that humanity uses to assert its superiority over nature. In ancient Egypt, animals represented gods and goddesses, but here they have been reduced to simple, somewhat demeaning sketches, perhaps reflecting a shift in the way humanity perceives the natural world. This is the cyclical nature of symbols; they morph and adapt, shaped by time and culture, yet still carry echoes of their past, resonating with our deepest subconscious.
