Requena Nozal made this painting, Abstracto mudéjar, on a canvas that measures 130 by 195 centimeters. The colors are dotted all over, it almost looks like it has been raining paint! When I look at this work, I imagine Nozal standing in front of the canvas, flicking a brush, maybe even using some kind of tool to make those dots. It looks like they had a blast making this, and I am having fun looking at it. I wonder if Nozal was looking at the architecture of the Mudéjar style when they made it? I see that there are patterns and shapes in this abstract expressionist painting, echoing architectural forms with the rhythmic repetition of the dots. Each mark feels deliberate, yet playful, like the artist is inviting us to explore the spaces between intention and chance. There is a tension between order and chaos, between the planned and the unexpected, and this is what makes the painting so alive! All artists work together like this, even across time. They keep the conversation moving!
