This delicate square of paper shows a monogram made by Reinier Willem Petrus de Vries. The lines are so subtle it feels almost like a ghost of a drawing. It’s like catching a whisper, or a half-remembered dream. Looking closer, the texture of the paper grabs your attention. It's aged and worn, with the faintest marks of the artist's hand. The circular form, the gentle curves intersecting… it gives the impression of something deeply personal, almost like a secret code. There’s an echo here of artists like Agnes Martin. Though Martin worked on a much larger scale, both artists use quiet, repetitive marks to create space for reflection. What I like about this piece is its sense of intimacy. It’s like you are being invited into the artist's private thoughts. Art can be like that, a quiet conversation between the artist and the viewer, across time and space.
