Henri Matisse made "Still Life after de Heem's 'La Desserte'" using bright colours and bold shapes. Imagine him standing there, brush in hand, really thinking about how to make those colours pop. The blues and yellows kind of dance together, don’t they? The fruit looks so tasty you could just reach out and grab it! I love how the objects seem to shift and rearrange themselves on the table. The guitar has a graphic element with bold colour stripes, and the whole composition is like a stage set. Matisse must have been feeling super inspired by de Heem. It’s like he’s saying, “Hey, I see what you did there, and now I’m gonna do my own thing with it!” That’s how artists work, you know? Bouncing ideas off each other across time. It's a total conversation! This piece is a reminder that painting is all about feeling and seeing in new ways.
