Patricq Kroon made this drawing of Burgemeester de Vlugt with pen on paper. It's all about line, right? The way those dark lines vary in thickness, kind of squiggling and wobbling around the form. You can almost see Kroon feeling his way around the shape of the mayor. Look at the dark ink used to define the arm of the chair, it’s so assertive! Almost cartoonish! But then you notice the faint lines sketching out the newspaper he's holding, lines that barely exist, like whispers of form. That contrast makes you realize this isn't just a picture; it's a record of a process. It reminds me of Honoré Daumier, with his political caricatures, but more intimate, less biting. It's like Kroon is thinking aloud with his pen, and we get to eavesdrop. It's tentative, open. The drawing feels like an invitation to keep questioning what we see, and how we see it.
