Harrie Gerritz made this print, "Oranje toren in groen veld," using decidedly simple lines and colours. It has a child-like charm to it, almost like something you'd find decorating a kindergarten classroom. Look at how the green lines of the field don't quite line up with the tower – it's this delightful off-kilter quality that makes it so appealing. The textures are also fascinating. The orange tower stands out as an unusual form with a white highlight, and I get the feeling that he or she used their finger to create the impression. You know, this little print reminds me a bit of Milton Avery, just in its playful approach to colour and form. There's a shared love for reducing things to their most basic elements, but still finding a way to express something profound. Art is just a conversation, isn't it? It's like we're all talking to each other across time.
