Witho Worms made this photograph, Rydultowy II (Anna), Poland, and it looks like he shot it on location. I love the monochromatic color, that burnt sienna feels like you’re staring out across an alien planet. It's interesting how such a limited palette actually opens up the possibilities for texture, for feeling. See that little road winding around the hill? It looks like the mud is thick, almost like paint! The real subject here is the place, the surface. It feels industrial and manufactured, like looking out across an abandoned landscape. If you squint, the whole piece is almost an abstract composition. It reminds me of Vija Celmins' drawings, in the way that it embraces ambiguity, suggesting that meaning is constructed from the act of seeing.
