George Loughridge made this drawing of a jug, we don't know when, or with what. But it is a loving rendering with the patience of close looking. I like how he gets lost in the surface, finding a world of colour in a very limited palette. He doesn’t hide his process, with clear pencil lines describing the object, on top of a light wash of colour, like watercolour, maybe? See how the drawing brings a subtle asymmetry to this functional object. There’s a delicate blue motif on the jug, which almost looks like it could be a spider or a strange flower, dripping down the surface of the jug, creating a sense of gravity and movement. It’s a tender, humble drawing, reminding me of Giorgio Morandi’s still lives. There’s something meditative in the repetition and the everydayness. It’s a celebration of the beauty found in simplicity, an appreciation for the objects that quietly populate our lives.
