This is a photographic portrait by Bobs depicting a standing boy with a lace collar next to a chair. I wonder what it was like for the artist to try and capture this young boy who looks so serious. Did he smile? Did he fidget? I suppose that photography, like painting, is always in conversation with other art forms and with the world, borrowing and expanding on what has come before. The tones are muted, almost faded, but somehow the image feels very alive. I can imagine the feel of his little wool suit and the soft, delicate lace. It's a simple image, but I find myself wondering about the boy and the person who made the photograph. What was the intention? What feeling did they want to convey? Like abstract painting, it's not about a fixed meaning, but more about the feeling it evokes.
