Paesaggio 1904

This is Carlo Carra’s ‘Paesaggio’, a landscape painting, made with oil. The way Carra lays down the paint here is so simple; you can almost feel the bristles of the brush against the canvas. It's like he’s inviting us to consider not just what's depicted, but how it's depicted. Up close, you can see how the earth and sky are built from layers of color, blended and blurred at the edges, creating a hazy atmosphere.
