Editor: Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons' "Elevata" features a grid of panels in shades of blue. There's a figure at the top, upside down, and abstract shapes. It evokes a dreamlike state to me. What symbols do you see at play here? Curator: The upside-down figure is striking, yes. Consider how disorientation, a loss of footing, can also be a form of elevation – perhaps a spiritual ascent achieved through upheaval. Blue, of course, universally signifies tranquility, but also sadness, depth...What about the dots and lines that thread throughout the composition? Editor: They almost feel like connections, maybe like memories or shared experiences, linking the individual panels together. Curator: Precisely. Notice how the imagery shifts from figuration to abstraction. This reflects the fragmented nature of memory itself. Campos-Pons is asking us to contemplate the weight of history. Editor: I see it now. It's about more than just personal experience, it's about the collective, ancestral memory.
