Editor: Right now, we're looking at "Domino" by Iwo Zaniewski, an acrylic on, I'm assuming, canvas. There's something wonderfully domestic about it, but the perspective's slightly off, isn’t it? Sort of an uncanny coziness. It makes me feel both welcome and vaguely uneasy. What jumps out at you when you see it? Curator: Uneasy coziness – I adore that! It reminds me of those old family snapshots where everyone's trying to look natural but something’s always a little… staged. Perhaps it’s the slightly feverish orange that drenches the room? Or maybe it's the geometry. Did you notice how all those rectangles - the dominoes, the rugs, the tables - create this layered space that almost flattens? Are we looking down into the room? Or are we *in* the room, breathing in all those plants? The narrative is simple - two people playing dominoes - but the visual language is gloriously complex. Almost theatrical, wouldn't you agree? Editor: The theatrical aspect, yes, especially with the dramatic lighting near the back window. With your pointing out of the rectangular objects, do you think there’s a sort of game played with composition as well? Curator: Exactly! It’s a painterly game of dominoes, a stacking of forms and colours to create an emotional space. Zaniewski invites us to observe, but also to participate in unraveling his artistic choices. Every brushstroke, every plant, feels deliberately placed, charged with meaning we're left to decipher. It's modern life seen through an Expressionist lens, like Munch staging a suburban drama. Editor: I get that! That push-and-pull sensation adds a layer of intensity. Thank you, this was really insightful! Curator: My pleasure! The best art makes you question everything, even your own living room, right?
