Nicholas Gorid made this Hepplewhite Mirror using watercolor and graphite on paper. You can see how the tones shift and change over the frame. The lines move like ribbons. The colors are earthy, grounded, and yet playful. I am thinking about this piece. What did Gorid have on his mind? Did he care more about the details or the totality of the piece? I see the work, and he’s right there, inside the frame, thinking about all the people that had painted before him. Painting is an ongoing conversation, a dialogue across time. Each stroke, each choice of color, echoes the voices of past masters while whispering to future artists. Gorid is part of this exchange, and in turn, he inspires and encourages new ideas.
