This fashion plate, Très Parisien, 1925, No. 10, Pl. 9: - ORPHÉE, was probably made with stencils and pochoir. It's all about capturing the spirit of the time, with bold yet delicate lines. Look at how the dress falls, it's a cascade of tiny marks, almost scribbles, that somehow convey the weight and texture of the fabric. The color palette is restrained, mostly earth tones, but with a flash of gold that hints at luxury. It reminds me of how I build up my own paintings, layer by layer, letting the process guide me. The way the artist uses line to define form is interesting here; it’s almost like a shorthand, suggesting more than it actually shows. And that sketchy quality adds to the overall sense of movement and vitality, a conversation between process and the final image. You can see a bit of Sonia Delaunay in this, with her celebration of color and movement, but with a Parisian twist. Art's always talking to itself.
