This is a Giorgio Morandi etching, called Still Life, and what strikes me is the beautiful circular composition, like a peep hole. Morandi’s world is built from muted tones, and repeated marks. The hatching is so precise, creating shadows and depth, almost like a meditative act. It’s a process of layering, revealing the forms slowly. If you look closely, there's this almost vibrating energy where the objects meet the background. This tension gives the scene a quiet, contemplative mood. The objects themselves seem ordinary, like bottles and boxes, but in Morandi's hands, they become monumental. It reminds me a little of Agnes Martin, that subtle repetition and focus on the grid, or even the quiet still lives of Chardin. Ultimately, Morandi reminds us to look more closely at the world around us.
