Serge Chermayeff made this Model AC74C radio, and you can see it over there. It’s got that stark, utilitarian thing going on, right? It's as if it’s all about function, but then you get these little dabs of, I don’t know, luxury? Check out the surface. It's all smooth, like it's been buffed and polished a million times, yet it feels approachable. It's got these sharp edges, but then they curve off just slightly; there’s a real back and forth between hard and soft here. And the way the light plays on the black case, it's like looking into a void, but not a scary one, more like a comforting one. This radio reminds me a bit of some of the Bauhaus designs, the way they strip things down to their essence. But Chermayeff adds something… warmer? It’s like a machine with a soul. It doesn't scream for attention, but once you notice it, you can't look away.
