Curator: Charles-Marie Dulac created "Jesu Via et Vita Nostra / Jesu Thesaurus Fidelium," an etching, and though the exact date remains unknown, its mood strikes me first. Editor: I agree, it’s intensely atmospheric. The monochromatic sepia tones unify the composition, almost dissolving the forms into each other. Curator: Dulac uses the etching technique to explore a spiritual connection to the land. The cathedral nestled within the trees feels so safe, so protected. Editor: The textural variations are quite compelling, too. Note the dense, almost velvety darks of the trees against the open, wispy sky. It’s a study in contrasts. Curator: Absolutely. It's this dreamlike balance that really grabs me - like a memory trying to surface, all filtered through feeling. Editor: A memory perhaps, or maybe an idealized vision, carefully constructed through tonal and compositional choices. A very fine work.
