Charles Hinman made this object called ‘Docking in Space’ and for me, it's all about the surface, those bold colours. It reminds me a little of the way Ellsworth Kelly thought about colour, a kind of graphic, clean, approach. What's so intriguing is the way Hinman makes the work, the fact that it isn't simply a flat rectangle. There's a three-dimensional element, and that really messes with your perception. It's not just about looking at a painting; it's about experiencing it as an object. You can almost feel the way the light must hit this piece. I love how the colours—red, white, and blue—define the planes, making you question what's paint and what's structure, it's hard to tell. It makes me think about how art is always in conversation, borrowing and building upon ideas, constantly pushing the boundaries of how we see and understand the world around us.
