Bruno Canova made this painting, "Massacre of the Innocents 3," and you know, it feels like he really wrestled with it. I can imagine him layering those sunny, warm yellows and oranges, scraping back, adding more, trying to get the light just right. There’s this lamb, so still and central, but the orange behind it feels so turbulent! That contrast gets me thinking about the weight of history and memory in his work. Looking closely, you see how the paint isn't just flat; there are these subtle textures that catch the light. I wonder if Canova ever felt like he was wrestling with his own doubts and fears as he made this? I feel like the artist's trying to make sense of something really profound, maybe the human condition, or how violence and innocence intersect. It reminds me a bit of Leon Golub, who also painted about violence. Ultimately, paintings like this become places for us to bring our own stories and feel our own feelings, adding to the ongoing conversation of painting. It's never really done, is it?
