Carel Adolph Lion Cachet made these designs for chairs and a table with pencil on paper. What strikes me right away is the casualness of the sketch, it’s very process-oriented, showing us the thinking behind the making. Look at how the lines are tentative, searching for the right form. You can see the artist working through different ideas, almost like a conversation with the page. The texture of the paper itself becomes part of the drawing, adding a layer of depth. It’s fascinating how a simple pencil line can suggest so much—the weight of the furniture, the softness of the upholstery, the overall style of the design. It feels like the visual equivalent of a musical score. Think of this as a loose jazz riff on design. And that makes me think of Cy Twombly's drawings, which have a similar sense of freedom and improvisation. Both artists remind us that art is not about perfection, but about the joy of exploration.
