These four studies of Palermo Cathedral, of unknown date and authorship, offer a window into architectural detail. The sepia tones and varying perspectives create a sense of depth and texture, inviting us to explore the cathedral's features. The composition, with its arrangement of different viewpoints, reveals the interplay between light and shadow. Each image captures a unique facet of the cathedral, from arched doorways to ornate structures. This fragmented approach to representation challenges the viewer's perception of space and form, disrupting traditional notions of architectural photography. The materiality of the cathedral is emphasized through the contrast between rough stone and smooth surfaces. In this way the studies deconstruct the viewer's understanding of architectural space, prompting new ways of seeing and interpreting familiar structures.
