Melissa Meyer made "Ambassade 22" using loose washes of paint. Looking at these watery layers, I can imagine the studio, the air thick with possibility. I feel a kinship with Melissa. What’s she thinking, layering these semi-transparent colors? Is she chasing a feeling or trying to capture a fleeting image? The blues, reds, yellows, and greens create a world that feels both familiar and dreamlike. It’s like peering through colored glass, each pane shifting the light, changing how we see the world. Notice the interplay of shapes, and the way each brushstroke seems to dance across the surface. There is a sense of play in the painting. I think about other painters like Helen Frankenthaler and Joan Mitchell. They all share this love of color and gesture. These artists inspire each other across time. Painting isn’t about answers; it’s about questions, a way of exploring our inner selves. It’s this sense of exploration that keeps me coming back to painting, and back to Melissa Meyer’s works.
