Editor: We're looking at Lovis Corinth's "Landscape near Freiburg," a pencil drawing. The sketchiness gives it an ephemeral, dreamlike quality. What do you make of it? Curator: It feels like a memory, doesn't it? Fleeting and impressionistic, like a landscape half-remembered. It's the kind of drawing where Corinth seems to be capturing not just the scene, but also his emotional response to it. Editor: I can see that. There's a real sense of immediacy. Curator: Exactly! The quick, loose strokes speak of urgency, as if he wanted to get it all down before the moment vanished. It makes you wonder what was going through his mind. Did you notice how the trees almost seem to reach up and out of the frame? Editor: I do now! Curator: I find the intimacy and the vulnerability of sketches particularly moving; they invite us to connect with the artist's journey. Editor: I'll definitely remember that. Thanks!
