Royer & Cie’s ‘Three Portraits of a Woman with a Guitar' are mounted in this album like stamps – and I just love stamps! The faded sepia tones and the soft focus gives each image a dream-like quality, like memories half-remembered. I imagine the artist, Royer, carefully composing each shot, maybe trying out different angles and poses to capture the essence of the woman and her music. And look at how the images are arranged - it's almost like they're telling a story. What could she be thinking as she strums those chords? Is she composing, improvising, or simply lost in the joy of playing? Maybe she's longing for someone, or remembering someone through this tune. The beauty of art is in its ability to evoke these feelings and ideas. It’s all one big conversation. I am in conversation with them; they are in conversation with me! Royer’s portraits remind us that art is not just about what we see, but what we feel and imagine too.
