Louis Annino made this drawing of a Court Cupboard, we don't know when, using what looks like graphite and colored pencil. I can imagine Annino- I wonder what he was like?-bent over the paper, carefully rendering the play of light on the wood grain. It’s so precise, almost obsessive, with delicate lines building up the form and texture of the cupboard. Look at the way he detailed the ornate carvings, each swirl and curve meticulously drawn! You can almost feel the dedication he must have had, just really going for it. There's something touching about this level of attention, like a form of love or admiration for the craft and design of the original cupboard. He’s saying to us: hey look, isn’t this thing amazing?! I feel that. It reminds me of other artists like Vija Celmins who draw ordinary mundane objects in a hyper-realistic way. It’s all part of this ongoing conversation between artists, each inspiring the other to see the world in new and exciting ways.
