Så kan det bli 2004

Rune Jansson made *Så kan det bli* with paint on canvas, and the title translates to "That's the way it could be," which I think is a very artful thing to say. The overall effect is pretty splashy, with lots of warm ambers and yellows that pull you in. You can see how the paint is put down in confident strokes, especially up in that left corner, where dabs of sky blue are almost fighting their way through. That single black line running down the right side is intriguing - it is such a simple mark. Like Jansson just dragged the brush and let it do its thing. It reminds me a bit of Agnes Martin’s work, but much looser, maybe a bit more wild. It’s a painting that’s not afraid to show its process, a bit like life itself. It could be this, it could be that. Who knows?
