Curatorial notes

Here, we observe Mihai Olos's sculpture, 'The Knot', a work that confronts us with its stark materiality. The sculpture is composed of roughly hewn wooden blocks, seemingly pieced together in a deliberate yet chaotic arrangement. The artist has created an object that defies easy categorization. The knot evokes a sense of tension and release. Olos's choice of wood is particularly significant. It is a material with inherent associations to nature, growth, and organic forms. Yet, here, the wood is shaped into rigid geometric shapes, thereby denying its natural form. This tension between the organic and the geometric destabilizes conventional notions of form and structure. The knot suggests a deeper engagement with the semiotic possibilities of sculpture. Olos seems to invite us to reconsider the relationship between form and meaning, challenging the viewer to move beyond surface appearances and engage with the underlying structure of thought itself.
