A Little Lift 

Théophile Alexandre Steinlen rendered this drawing with pastel and crayon, its textured surface creating a study of contrast, primarily through shape and colour. We see two figures placed within a confined interior, where the older man seated on the left and the youthful woman standing on the right are brought together by an interplay of light and shadow. The composition guides our eye in how the figures are positioned.
