This is a page from a notebook with Annotations, made by George Hendrik Breitner. It’s a flurry of ink on paper, a real dive into process. You can almost smell the studio, the scent of ink and paper hanging in the air. I love how immediate it feels. The writing sprawls across the page. Look at the way the lines sometimes loop back on themselves, creating these little eddies of energy. The ink is so immediate, you can almost feel the pressure of the pen on the page, the artist's hand moving across the surface. It is thin and scratchy, direct and without hesitation, it is raw. This makes me think of Cy Twombly. Both artists share that sense of raw, unedited expression. They remind us that art is a conversation, a messy, beautiful, and ongoing exchange of ideas. It’s all about embracing ambiguity and the many ways we can experience the world.
