Charles Caseau made 'Jug' using watercolour on paper, but when I look at this still life, I don’t just see objects; I see a record of Caseau’s attention. The background has this warm, mottled quality like an old wall you might see in a French film. Looking closer, you see the way the watercolor pools and settles into the paper's texture, creating these soft, granular effects. The floral design and the jug itself are rendered with such care. Each line, each curve seems to carry a quiet reverence for the everyday. It reminds me of Morandi, doesn't it? That same dedication to the mundane, the way he could turn bottles and jars into these monumental subjects. 'Jug' it isn't just a painting of a jug. It's a meditation on seeing, on valuing the simple act of looking closely at the world around you.
