Curator: This is Luigi Barocci's "Colonna Madonna," housed here at the Harvard Art Museums. Editor: It's striking how serene and composed it feels, despite the dynamic pose of the child. There's an incredible sense of peace. Curator: The composition, indeed, invites contemplation. Note the interplay of light and shadow across their figures. The gaze of the Madonna directs our own. Editor: I love the detail in the folds of her dress, it creates such depth and the texture almost makes you want to reach out and touch it. Curator: Precisely, the materiality of the ink simulates fabric, directing the viewer to the tangible qualities of the image. Editor: Well, I think it's a beautiful reminder to pause, to breathe, and find the sacred in everyday life. Curator: A fitting sentiment to carry forward.
