Curatorial notes

This print reproduces a painting depicting the Madonna enthroned among saints. The Virgin, holding the Christ Child, is surrounded by an aura of cherubic faces, a powerful symbol of divine presence. This motif of the Madonna and Child, seated in majesty, echoes images of ancient goddesses. Consider the visual link to the seated figures of Isis with Horus, or even earlier Mesopotamian mother goddesses. This continuity isn't coincidence, but a deep-seated human impulse to venerate motherhood and divine power. The halo of cherubs, a later Christian addition, might remind one of the putti of Renaissance art, which themselves draw from classical depictions of Eros and Psyche. Such visual echoes demonstrate the cyclical nature of symbols. They resurface across cultures and eras, transformed yet retaining a core emotional charge, reminding us of the enduring power of human imagination and the way collective memory shapes our artistic expressions.
