Alfred Freddy Krupa made this delicate artwork, A Boat, in ink on paper. I imagine him holding his breath, controlling the brush, and letting the ink bleed outwards. He must have been interested in the beauty of the unexpected, allowing the medium to run and disperse to create these abstract forms. There's a real tension between control and chance here. Those spidery lines and inky pools feel like he’s pushing the material to its limits. The watery ink reminds me of East Asian painting, like an homage, but made more chaotic. These gestures are almost figurative but resisting the urge to fully materialize. It’s like looking at something familiar through fog, trying to grasp the idea of a boat. Maybe Krupa was thinking about how we perceive things, how we fill in the blanks to make sense of the world.
