Adriaan Pit created this postcard to Philip Zilcken presumably with ink and paper. It's so interesting to see these little everyday gestures from so long ago, like a tiny message in a bottle cast into the ocean of time. I imagine Pit sitting at a desk, pen in hand, carefully composing his thoughts. What was on his mind? What was the weather like? Was it difficult to find stamps at that time? The penmanship is really elegant, the way the letters loop and connect. It’s like a dance across the page, capturing a moment of connection between two people. Postcards are so human; they show a desire to reach out, to share a piece of oneself with another. You get a glimpse of a fleeting thought, a quick hello across the miles. It reminds you of our shared desire to connect, to leave a mark on the world, no matter how small. It is a way to say: I was here, and I was thinking of you.
