This is a lace pattern design, made on paper by Louise Wilhelmina van der Meulen-Nulle, who was born in 1884. It’s all about process, right? Thinking through making, and making through thinking. You can see the hand in the drawing, the way the line just flows and meanders, mapping out the floral forms. It's a working drawing, but somehow still so beautiful. Look at the way the tiny dots fill in the forms, creating a sense of depth. It's not just about representing the flowers, but also about thinking through how the lace will actually be constructed. I'm really reminded of the work of Hilma af Klint, who also combined scientific observation with spiritual exploration in her drawings. There’s this ongoing conversation about line, form, and structure. Art embraces ambiguity, and the best pieces leave us with more questions than answers, like this lace pattern.
