This stoneware teapot was made by Jeff Noska and is currently on display at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. The first thing I notice is the texture; those parallel lines scored into the clay create a sort of architectural rhythm. I love that the teapot is both functional and sculptural, blurring those lines between art and craft. The colours are muted, almost pastel – pinks, greens, and creams. It gives the piece a gentle, playful feel. The spout, like a jaunty arm, juts out with a gradient of mossy green fading into dusty rose. I imagine the artist’s hands shaping the clay, pressing those lines, and carefully glazing each part. You can feel the process in the final form. It reminds me a little of Ken Price, who also made these eccentric, colourful ceramic forms. Art is like this ongoing conversation, right? We take something from the past, twist it, and make it our own. This teapot is not just an object, it's a statement. It doesn’t ask for perfection. It’s all about embracing the playful and unexpected.
