Editor: This untitled piece by Gerd Winner features a serigraph print of a tank repeated four times. It’s… overwhelming. The sheer industrial nature of the subject is quite striking. What do you see in this work? Curator: I see a meditation on industrialized warfare, the means of its production, and its consumption by society. Consider the labor involved in building such a machine, and the social implications of its use. How does the artist’s choice of serigraphy, a process often associated with mass production, reinforce this idea? Editor: That’s a powerful point! The repetition really emphasizes the industrial process. I hadn’t considered it that way. Curator: Exactly. It invites us to think about not just the image of the tank, but also its material reality and the network of labor and capital that brought it into being. Editor: Fascinating. Thanks for sharing your insight.
